About

GoogleEarth_ImageSo … personally, this blog is for my friends and colleagues, who want to keep an eye on what I am up to, and of course anyone else who wants to come along for the ride.

Originally we talked of sailing around Great Britain in an anti clockwise direction between 1st August and mid September as a shake down cruise for Bold Explorer.  This would be a precursor to the more serious preparation by Geoff Evans to take her across to the Azores and up to the North West Passage next year, with the intention of chartering her for about four years to adventurous clients wanting to venture into the ice with an exciting set of agendas.

As we approached 1st August and others came forward to join the shake-down cruise, the exercise took on a different shape especially to accommodate two Scottish crew due to embark mid August near the Clyde.   The Google map on the left is a first approximation of the new passage plan.  See the Technical page to find out how I hope we may improve the way of mapping our progress.

The beauty of this new passage plan is that Geoff has an intimate knowledge of the West coast of Scotland – he knows the best choice of anchorages and the best sights to see and of course he has sailed these waters extensively which helps to make for more sensible navigation and seamanship.

Sounds fantastic Fabian – will be following your progress! Not sure of the nautical equivalent of ‘Break a leg’ – ‘May the Force 8s be with you’? – but anyway good luck and have a great time!

brilliant challenge for aspirant sea dogs…. us lubbers may find you on your way back south, if you land at all near Courtown, Wexford, where I hope to visit an Aunt around 5th Sept, so good luck fair winds and jolly sailing… we are at your house briefly… sam just took a tumble when challenging the road on your mountain skate board, all surviving very well and happy, Love Anna, Tom and Sam (who is not fat but is happy) …. All this makes our dinghy sailing very moderate, but Sam now proudly capsizes a laser and rights it without getting wet. I don’t capsize.
